Dear LS Families,
Happy new year of reading and discovery to all of you. The winter book order has arrived. Your girls made thoughtful suggestions and we now have an interesting assortment of new books. Fiction titles include Lane Smith's prize-winning Grandpa Green, Sarah Weeks' Pie (a novel including 14 recipes), Richard Peck's Secrets at Sea, Brenda Woods' Saint Louis Armstrong Beach (young clarinetist rescues neighborhood dog during Hurricane Katrina) and many more. Non-fiction titles include Views from Our Shoes: Growing Up with a Brother or Sister with Special Needs; Kakapo Rescue, Saving the World's Strangest Parrot; and Straight and Curvy, Meek and Nervy, More About Antonyms (funny, clear, palatable grammar tales!). We've filled in the Tomie dePaola shelf with some old favorites like Now One Foot, Now the Other (young boy and Grandfather teach each other to walk). We've added newest volumes to favorite series (Wendy Maas' 11 Birthdays, Finally, 13 Gifts...). Ask your girls about the new books.
Happy reading.

Dear LS families,
The new book order has arrived! It includes some old favorites like Judith Viorst's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and some new prize winners like The Pirate of Kindergarten by George Ella Lyon. A few very well-loved books like Clarice Bean Spells Trouble have been replaced with newer copies, and we now have the newest installments of a couple of favorite series. There are also non-fiction titles, including Newbery Honor book Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night; My Librarian is a Camel, How Books are Brought to Children Around the World by Margriet Ruurs, and the biography Jim Henson, The Guy who Played with Puppets, by Kathleen Krull. Students will be able to have a sneak peek even before these books are cataloged and shelved. Be sure to ask your girls about the new books.
Ms. Mason, LS librarian
