MYTHOLOGY

The Grove Dictionary of Art, located in Library Resources on the Library's Website, will provide many illustrations of mythical gods, heroes, heroines, and legends.   To find these, you must click on 'Bridgeman images' on the left-hand side.   Maximize the screen and search by one term (for greatest success).  Example: Orpheus will produce images of Orpheus and also Orpheus and Eurydice. Thumbnails can be enlarged for better viewing.
  
Ancient Art, Mythology, and Archaeology Resources
    Site from the U. of Kentucky Classics Dept.  Tnis  site is a good source for illustrations, but  read index carefully, as this is a portal site that contains many complicated resources.

Britannica Online
     Enter 'mythology' or other terms, i.e. "Pyramus and Thisbe" (remember to use double quotation marks to search phrases)

Bulfinch's Mythology
    A very, very rich source; the whole work can be hypersearched. Search for information on Greek gods under their Roman names.

Classical Myth: The Ancient Sources ( University of Victoria, B.C.)
    Ancient images and textual references for 15 Olympian deities.   Texts are divided into categories such as birth, domain, sexual encounters and offspring, etc.  Good links.

First Hypertext Edition of The Dictionary of Phrase and Fable , comp. by E. Cobham Brewer. This edition: 1894.  Use this to add depth to your knowledge.  For example, if you search using the terms "Pyramus and Thisbe" you will be directed to mulberry and to an earlier Persian story with similarities to the later Greek variant.  If you need help with your search, ask your teacher or the librarians.

Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts (U. of Pittsburgh)
    Folklore and mythology texts from around the world subdivided by motif or subject; includes many variants of stories, which are all available on this site.

Forum Romanum Picture Index - Mythological Characters
    Includes at least one illustration for each entry; art from all periods. 

Greek Mythology - animations and brief stories; also includes Encyclopedia of Greek Mythology; good site for Middle School Students

Legends - Mostly Arthurian legends; no Greek or Roman content

The Mythical Quest: In Search of Adventure, Romance, and Enlightenment (British Library Exhibit)
    Seven stories of the "mythical quest" for "true love, everlasting glory, and spiritual enlightenment."  Included in the seven stories are the quest for the Holy Grail, Rama's rescue of Sita, Sinbad's seven voyages.
