Never share passwords. No one needs this information and reputable agencies will never ask for it.
-
Use only your log in name, AIM id, or email address in chat rooms or when emailing. DO NOT give your personal information--that is name, address, phone number jor pictures of yourself, your family or your friends when interacting with people you meet online.
-
People online may very well NOT be exactly who they seem to be.
-
People can pretend to be ANYONE online--male or female, young or old, good or evil! Never agree to meet anyone in person whom you know only from the internet.
-
If someone, especially someone whom you do not know, writes something that is mean, offensive or just makes you uncomfortable, do not write back! Get off the computer and tell someone. Yoru parents or another adult can handle it with the online service provider.
-
Remember that what you write, suggest or post on the internet is NOT completely private. Be careful and thoughtful about what you type.
-
Do not open email attachments that come from unknown sources even if they have cutesy screen names or subject lines. This is how very harmful viruses and worms get loose.
-
If in doubt, get off the computer and tell someone what is going on. Your parents, caregiver or teachers can help. You can always get back online!
